Spain is the largest country in southern Europe and a contender for our favourite European destination. The contrast between the regions of Galacia, Basque, Andalucia and Catalonia could not be more different, with variations in climate, food, drink, language and people. It is a glorious country to explore and how can you fail to enjoy tapas, fresh seafood and sangria?

In addition to the mainland, Spain lays claim to the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, which are different again to visit.  

Lovers of architecture will adore Spain - Sagrada Familia, Santiago de Compostela cathedral, the unique whitewashed houses on Lanzarote, Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum and the beautiful Moorish architecture in Andalucia have to be seen to be believed.

All the major cruise operators visit Spain, with popular ports including Barcelona, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cadiz, Vigo, La Coruna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. 

Spain's islands and Mediterranean coast get very hot in summer, something to consider if you are visting with young children.
