Portugal
Welcome to Anchors Aweigh Portugal.
Here we will share with you information and photos of places to explore in Portugal.
Sitting on the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal is a coastal country in SW Europe. It has a land border with Spain to the north and west. In addition to the mainland, Portugal lays claim to two autonomous regions; Maderia and the Azores, both in the Atlantic Ocean.
Tourism is important to Portugal, with major tourist draws including Lisbon, Porto, Cascais, the Algarve and Maderia. Portugal enjoys a warm southern Europe climate, although cooler winds coming off the Atlantic offer some respite to hot days.
Portugal is well known for two alcoholic drinks, Port and Ginjinha, both worth trying. The go-to sweet treat is the Pastel de Nata, best washed down with a strong coffee. Manteigaria in Lisbon's Time Out Market serves the best Pastel de Nata, slightly warm with their signature buttery pastry and creamy custard filling. Delicious.
